Advocate Sahil Dewani has emerged as the first ever student from Nagpur University (NU) to be conferred with 20 medals at the upcoming 104th convocation ceremony of NU on December 3, 2017. Sahil is the only student from NU to reach this tally of medals post the segregation of medicine faculty from NU to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in 1998.

Sahil, who’s a law graduate in BA.LLB (five years course affiliated to NU) from GH Raisoni Law School, told Nation Next, “I’m actually surprised to learn that I’ve broken a record! I was expecting 11-12 medals and my parents were expecting around 13-14 medals. I never thought I’d be receiving 20!” When asked about the celebrations of the same, Sahil quipped, “Hopefully on third itself! But, have to plan it properly.”

When Nation Next spoke to Sahil’s father and leading advocate from Nagpur Shyam Dewani, the proud father said, “It’s probably the best reward for any parents. We weren’t expecting 20 medals for Sahil; thought he’d receive 13 or 14. Moreover, I never expected him to top in all faculties. There have to be grand celebrations, no doubt!”

Sahil, who’s busy practicing law post his graduation in 2016, has no immediate plans to pursue higher education. Shyam, speaking on the same, said, “I told him to pursue his further studies because now that he’s started practicing, education somewhere takes a back seat. So, it’s better if he completes his education. I want him to go to Oxford or other equally reputed university.”
