Shankar Nagar shootout case: Nagpur Police nabs accused absconding for five years

Nagpur Police, on Friday, arrested Amar Bhoyar (28), an absconding accused involved in the murder of Bharatiya Yuva Morcha vice-president Hemant Diyewar in the infamous 2013 Shankar Nagar shootout.

Diyewar was murdered on August 24, 2013 at Shankar Nagar, Nagpur. While prime accused Gulnazwaz Khan Ejaz Khan alias Sheiku along with other three accused was arrested, Bhoyar was absconding since the incident.

Bhoyar, a resident of Pandharkavda (Yavatmal District), had been evading police arrest since 2013 by hiding at different places. The police recently got the tip that Bhoyar was going to visit his house in Pandharkavda. Acting on the tip-off, a police team from Ambazari police station went to Bhoyar’s residence and arrested him. Bhoyar was presented before the court, which remanded him to police custody till August 14, 2018.

The complainant in the case is Diyewar’s friend Sanjay Paradkar (28). Paradkar along Diyewar had gone to Shankar Nagar on the day of the incident. Diyewar’s friend Shailesh Thakur later joined him for a conversation. Paradkar, who was standing a bit far away, heard the sound of a gunshot. On reaching near Diyewar, Paradkar saw that the accused had shot Diyewar multiple times and had also hit him with an axe. Diyewar was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The accused were later booked by the police under sections 302, 143, 147, 148, 149 and 120 (b) of the IPC and relevant sections of MCOCA.
