Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, who fractured his left thumb during India’s match against Australia on June 9 in ICC World Cup 2019, has been ruled out of the tournament because of the injury. Dhawan will be replaced by young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by Sunil Subramaniam, Team India’s manager, who said, “Following several specialist opinions, he’ll be in a cast till mid-July and is ruled out of the World Cup. Dhawan’s fracture is at the base of the first metacarpal on his left hand. We’ve requested for Rishabh Pant as a replacement.”
