A right wing activist hurled a shoe at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar on April 14, 2016, when he was addressing a public meeting at Dhanwate National College in Nagpur on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti. This incident sparked off a chaos at the venue and the shoe hurler was beaten badly by Kanhaiya’s supporters and the police. Nation Next photojournalist Kartik Thakur captured the entire incident on his camera.

The activist, who hurled the shoe at Kumar, apparently was miffed with Kumar’s scathing attack on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh : RSS in his speech. “Jaise Gujarat Narendra Modi ka nahi, Gandhi ka hain; waise hi Nagpur Golwalkar ka nahi, Ambedkar ka hain,” said Kanhaiya, who was released on six-months interim bail after being arrested in a sedition case because of his inflammatory speech at JNU in February 2016. Earlier in the morning, Bajrang Dal activists pelted stones at the car, in which Kanhaiya was travelling. Nation Next was informed by an NSUI leader yesterday about the Bajrang Dal’s prospective plans of protest against Kanhaiya.
