Irritated with his six-year-old son’s constant demand for eating momos, his 31-year-old drunk father, on Saturday night, threw the son in the Agra Canal in the Jaitpur Area of South Delhi. The dead body of the kid was recovered on Sunday afternoon by rescue teams. The man has been identified as Sanjay Alwi, an e-rickshaw driver.
The crime came to the light when the police, at around 10.10 pm on Saturday, received a call from a passerby who saw Sanjay throw his son Ayaan into the canal from Khadar Bridge. As the locals caught Sanjay, the police reached the spot and arranged for divers and rescue teams from the fire department to search for the child’s body. As it was late night and dark, the body could not be found. The body was found the next day in the afternoon.
The police arrested Alwi and booked him under section 302 of the IPC. Alwi, during the interrogation, confessed to the crime. He told the cops that when he reached home Ayaan was crying continuously for momos, which irritated him. Alwi, under the influence of alcohol, took Ayaan with him to the canal and threw him into it.
