SpiceJet employee dies in freak accident at Kolkata airport

In a tragic incident, an employee of SpiceJet was killed in a freak accident at Kolkata airport on Wednesday at around 1:30 am. The 22-year-old technician Rohit Virendra Pandey was working in the belly of an aircraft parked at a bay in Kolkata airport when a hydraulic door accidentally closed on him.

The flaps of the door crushed Rohit, who was an employee of the engineering and maintenance division of SpiceJet. His body was removed with the help of fire brigade. Rohit’s body has been handed over to the police, which have sent the body for post mortem. He was basically from Mumbai and lived in Kolkata with his aunt.

A statement issued by SpiceJet read: “Rohit Pandey was doing maintenance work in the right hand main landing gear wheel well area of a Q400 aircraft which was parked at bay number 32 at Kolkata airport. Inadvertently, the main landing gear hydraulic door closed and he got stuck in between the hydraulic door flaps. The hydraulic doors were broken to rescue Pandey but he was declared dead.”
