Four days after actor Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide at his residence in Mumbai, filmmaker Vijay Shekhar Gupta has announced that he will be making a film inspired by the late actor’s life. The movie titled ‘Suicide or Murder?’ will be directed by Shamik Maulik. Gupta also shared the upcoming film’s poster on Twitter.

Gupta told Indian Express: “Sushant Singh Rajput’s death by suicide came as a shock to all of us, but it is not new. Many actors who come to the industry to chase their dreams of making it big here end up not getting work. Many actors take this route and some of them keep on struggling for their entire lives. So, we wanted to tell a story of how actors from small towns who don’t have godfathers in Bollywood struggle.”
Intending to ‘expose’ Bollywood with this film, Gupta elaborated on nepotism and how lobbying machinery works in the film industry. Characterising Bollywood to be a platform for star kids, Gupta said, “Bollywood is a place, where opportunities are snatched from the hands of those who deserve them and are given those who have connections.”
Director Shamik Mauilk while speaking about the film told Navbharat Times said, “I want to break this gang. My story will show everything that was done wrong with Sushant. That boy was forced to end his life. He was bullied by people and boycotted and was even fired from several films back-to-back.”
Essentially based on Sushant’s life, the film is not a biopic, said Gupta. “It is inspired by his life and work. We are writing the script. It will be based on thorough research of the star’s life, and we will be talking to a lot of other actors who are considered ‘outsiders’ in the industry”, he added.
Beginning with the production for the film in few months, the movie will cast a ‘rising star’, who will portray the role of each struggling actor in Bollywood.
34-year-old Sushant Singh Rajput passed away on June 14 after he committed suicide at his residence in Mont Blanc Apartments on Carter Road, Mumbai.
