Some days back Nation Next told you about IIM-Nagpur recording 100 percent placement for its students of the 2016-18 batch. The highest package offered during the placement drive was Rs 19 lakh per annum. The package has been bagged by 27-year-old, Justin Fernandez, a tailor’s son and a native of Kollam in Kerela. Justin will be soon joining as the associate director of Value Labs in Hyderabad.

Coming from a family of modest means, which always struggled to make both ends meet, Justin always strived for a better education. His grandfather was a tailor and so is his father. With the growing readymade garment industry, his family struggled for a decent income and would often depend on government subsidies to fulfill their needs.

Knowing that education was the key to the family’s problems, Justin’s aunt always supported him and his sister for education. She took care of their education till Class 12. After Justin qualified as a BTech graduate from Government College of Engineering at Trivandrum, scholarships helped him survive. Thereafter, Justin worked at a software firm for two years. He initially wanted to join IIM-Kozikhode but as he couldn’t make it to the institution, he enrolled at IIM-Nagpur and as they, the rest is history!

Justin’s win over the odds in his life is a testimony to the fact that if one has the will and patience to excel, he will, eventually! It is also a reminder that there’s’ no, absolutely no substitute for hard work!
