Three Ola cab drivers were arrested by Pratap Nagar Police on Saturday for their involvement in multiple chain snatching and bag lifting cases in Nagpur. The three-member-gang was involved in six chain snatching and two bag lifting incidents in Pratap Nagar, Sonegaon, Koradi and Beltarodi.
Those arrested have been identified as Sagar Ishwar Bhinganiya (21), a resident of Deshraj Nagar, Kaleem Mehboob Sheikh (26), a resident of Gittikhadan and Romi Gurudayal Sakhare (26), a resident of Mankapur. Pratap Nagar police also recovered a Tata Indigo Ola cab (MH 49/F/0685), a two wheeler (MH – 40/G/9508), gold ornaments and mobile phones, collectively worth Rs 3, 94,800 from the accused.
The accused were arrested after an incident involving Kiran Kishor Kapte (60), a resident of Trimurti Nagar, came to light. When Kapte was heading to meet her friend in Sonegaon on August 4, Sagar Bhiganiya snatched her mangalsutra worth Rs 10,000 and fled in a white car.
After Kapte’s complaint, when the case was being investigated, the detection squad of Pratap Nagar Police station got the information that the car used in the crime had a black roof. On checking the CCTV footage in the area, the police found the car, which had ‘Young Force’ sticker at the back. Then, the police got the tip that the car with the sticker was often seen in Mankapur.
The police ultimately traced down the car to its owner – Salman Tahir Khan, a resident of Paloti. Salman informed that he had purchased the car a month back and had registered it with Ola. Salman also informed that the car was being driven by Kaleem Sheikh.
With Salman’s help, the police called Sheikh near the Dinshaws factory. When Sheikh arrived, he was accompanied by Romi Sakhare. On being questioned, Sheikh and Sakhare confessed to the crimes. Thereafter, Bhinganiya was nabbed. As per the confession, the three accused drivers would use the car for committing crimes.
