Two Indigo aircrafts made an emergency landing at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Nagpur Airport without runway lights after it ran out of fuel.

With hundreds of passengers on board, as both the aircrafts reached near the airport, the runway lights got turned off. Having no other option left, the two pilots landed the aircrafts, which were running out of fuel.

The aircrafts were diverted from Mumbai to Nagpur due to bad weather conditions. As reported in TOI, “Landing was done using the instrument landing system (ILS) that is present in all the major airports including Nagpur. Landing an aircraft on a runway without lights only using ILS is rarest or rare incident and could have risked lives of passengers.”
