‘Umrao Jaan,’ ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ music director Khayyam passes away at 92

    Legendary music director Mohammed Zahur ‘Khayyam’ Hashmi best known for movies Umrao Jaan, Kabhie Kabhie passed away on Monday evening.

    Legendary music director Mohammed Zahur ‘Khayyam’ Hashmi (92) best known for movies Umrao Jaan, Kabhie Kabhie passed away on Monday evening due to a cardiac arrest. The composer had been hospitalised due to lung infection on July 28 after he had collapsed in his house in Mumbai. Khayyam was in the ICU at Sujay Hospital in Mumbai, in a critical condition. 

    Some of his most popular songs include, ‘Dikhayii Diye Yun’ from Bazaar, ‘Aaja Re’ from Noorie, ‘Tere Chehre Se’ from Kabhi Kabhi, ‘In Aankhon Ki’ from Umrao Jaan to name a few.

    Khayyam, was best known for music in hits including Kabhi Kabhi (1972), Umrao Jaan (1981), Noorie (1979), Raziya Sultan (1983), Bazaar (1982), among many others.
