In a horrifying incident, a 25-year-old man was allegedly tied to a tree and burned alive by the family of a woman with whom he was having an affair. The incident took place on June 1 night in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district.
The deceased, who hailed from Bhujani under Fatanpur police station, succumbed on the spot. Fumed by the man’s death, his family and the locals set two police vehicles on fire. The situation was brought under control by additional force from nearby police stations led by senior officers.
District Superintendent of police, Abhishek Singh, told a daily that some people had barged into the house of Ambika Patel and dragged him away. Then they tied Patel to a tree and set him on fire after sprinkling petrol on him before fleeing the spot. His family members and locals soon assembled at the site. They demanded immediate arrest and action against the perpetrators. They set a 112 police response vehicle and another police jeep on fire, which forced policemen to flee.
The deceased’s relatives have claimed that Patel was having an affair with the woman from his village and that had resulted in many face offs between the families. Patel had reportedly shared a video clip of the woman on social media a few months ago, which had fuelled to the increasing tensions between the families.
The woman had been recently been appointed as a police constable and was posted at Kanpur. Her family members had earlier registered a complaint against Patel, following which he was arrested. He was released from jail recently.
