Former finance minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley passed away today morning. Jaitley was put on ventilator few days back after he was admitted to AIIMS. Since then he was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Jaitley was admitted after he complained of breathlessness and anxiety. However, as per AIIMS, he was under the supervision of a team comprising multidisciplinary doctors and was ‘hemodynamically stable.’

The 66-year-old leader didn’t even contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections due to health reasons. After the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Jaitley wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting the latter to not to include him in the cabinet due to his deteriorating health condition.

Arun Jaitley in September 2014 had undergone bariatric surgery to control the weight he had gained due to his severe diabetic condition. In May 2018, after suffering from a kidney ailment, he underwent a renal transplant at AIIMS. In January 2019, he also  had a surgery in the US for soft tissue cancer.
