VIA LEW (Vidarbha Industries Association – Lady Entrepreneurs Wing) recently organised the ‘Abhinav Khadi’ fashion show in Nagpur to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. This was the third consecutive year wherein VIA LEW organised such a fashion show.
The main objective behind organising the event was not only to promote budding designers of the region but to create awareness about the khadi. It was an attempt to display new, creative and innovative trends in Khadi clothing.
For the uninitiated, Khadi is a hand-woven cloth, which gained popularity during the freedom movement. For Mahatma Gandhi, Khadi was an idea of self-reliance, freedom from oppression and economic liberation. Even today, Khadi production provides employment to over 20 lakh people in India.
The winner, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up of the fashion show included Tantu Shri Asi Vidya Hath Kargha Prakalp, Simplicity Creative House by Durgesh and Pal creations by Simple Chatwal respectively.
VIA LEW Chairperson Rita Lanjewar welcomed the guests attending the unique fashion show, which was judged by Abha Choudhury, Ekta Bhaiya and Madhubala Singh. Shachi Malik, Yogita Deshmukh, Poonam lala and Chitra Parate worked hard for the success of the event, which was conducted by Neelam Bowade. Manisha Bawankar gave the vote of thanks.
‘Abhinav Khadi’ was sponsored by Batukbhai Jewellers, Rokde Jewellers, Uttar Dakshin, Vicco and Akshay Opticals.
