Team Vidarbha created history today as it won the Ranji Trophy for the first time by beating Delhi at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.
Chasing a lead of 252 runs put forth by Vidarbha, Delhi could accumulate just 280 runs giving a target of 29 runs to Vidarbha to win the historic final. For Delhi, Dhruv Shorey and Nitish Rana both scored half-centuries. Akshay Wakhare, Aditya Sarwate, Rajneesh Gurbani and Siddhesh Neral picked up four, three, two and one wickets for Vidarbha to restrict Delhi to 280.
Vidarbha achieved the target in just five overs as Wasim Jaffer finished the match in style by hitting a boundary. Rajneesh, who picked up six wickets in the first innings and became the second bowler to get a hat-trick in a Ranji final was awarded the Man of the Match award.
An ecstatic captain of the Vidarbha team Faiz Fazal during the presentation ceremony described the win no less than a fairy tale and praised the entire team and staff for their efforts.
