IAS officer Virendra Singh took charge as the new commissioner of Nagpur Municipal Corporation on Friday. He was handed over the charge of the post by past NMC commissioner and Nagpur District Collector Ashwin Mudgal. Present during the occasion were Ravindra Kumbhare (Additional Municipal Commissioner), Mahesh Dhamchi (Assistant Commissioner), Dr Ramnath Sonawne (Chief Executive Officer of Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation), Dr RZ Siddiqui (Director of NSEL – Nagpur Environmental Services Limited), Public Relation Officer Ashok Kolhatkar, and assistant Public Relation Officer Pradeep Khadnavis.
An IAS officer of 2006 batch, Virendra Singh, before taking the UPSC exam, was working with Air India. Apart from being selected in the Maharashtra cadre, he has done outstanding work in different places and is known as a fast-serving officer in the administration.
Singh, before becoming the NMC commissioner, worked as the Director and Commissioner of Municipal Corporation in the Mantralaya. He has also previously served as the collector in Aurangabad and Sindhudurg. For some time, he was also involved with the digital cell of the Department of Information Technology.
After accepting the charge, Virendra Singh met the officials of different departments and reviewed the work done by them. He urged the head of the departments to work with all the employees in unison with discipline, integrity and efficiency. Singh assured that his tenure would be for the betterment and development of Nagpur .
