Wardha: Rats bite dead body of two-and-a-half year-old boy at hospital morgue, family demands action

In a shocking case of medical negligence, the dead body of a two-and-a-half-year-old boy was found to have rat bite marks on June 13 while his body lay at the morgue of a rural hospital in Wardha district. The boy’s family has demanded strict action against the hospital authorities in this regard.

As per the police, the little boy, identified as Ganesh Raju Nikhade, had drowned in a water tank while he was playing with his 7-year-old sister behind their house at Renkapur village in Samudrapur Taluka of Wardha district on June 12. Ganesh was immediately rushed to the rural hospital but unfortunately he was declared brought dead.

Hospital authorities refused to hand over the boy’s body to his family without an autopsy. Hence the body was kept overnight at the morgue of the hospital. When the body was taken out for autopsy on June 13, it had rat bite marks.

The gross act of negligence has infuriated the deceased’s family, which has demanded strict action against those responsible for the negligence. Civil surgeon P Madavi has said that an inquiry committee has been constituted and stringent action will be taken against the guilty.
