On Saturday, the nation woke up to the biggest political jolt ever when NCP leader Ajit Pawar ‘ditched’ the NCP and formed government with the BJP. Early morning on Saturday, while Pawar took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis had sworn as the Chief Minister of the state.
Soon a political drama unfolded when NCP supremo Sharad Pawar through his explosive tweets claimed of being unaware of the entire chain of events that shook the country. Ajit’s cousin and NCP MP Supriya Sule too was visibly anguished over her brother’s bold step and took to social media to express her displeasure and shock.
Finally, the entire ‘Maha’ episode lasted for 80 hours as both Fadnavis and Pawar on Tuesday submitted their respective letters of resignation to the Governor citing lack of required numbers to form government. Soon, NCP-Shiv Sena-Congress pepped up to form their government in the state.
As soon as the reality sunk in the BJP, it began analysing if junior Pawar’s ‘defection’ was just a smart move by uncle Pawar to end President’s Rule and quickly form government. Insiders feel that Sharad Pawar was keen on getting the President Rule revoked as the BJP would have ensured prolonging the same for six months at least or till the time they would get the required numbers to form government.
As the political drama unfolded, while Ajit Pawar got the criticism initially, Sharad Pawar got the sympathy. While all this lasted, Ajit Pawar claimed that he was still a part of the NCP and would always be. One of the biggest newsmakers in the recent past, Ajit Pawar even managed to get a clean chit from the Anti Corruption Bureau in the 70,000 crore irrigation scam thus creating a win-win situation for himself. Sources say that he’s currently being tipped as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
To the contrary, in no time, the family feud as well as the political tug of war that got created between the Pawars ceased to exist. Sule with open arms on Wednesday hugged Ajit as the two posed for the cameras at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai as brother Ajit got back to NCP.
Despite people’s anguish and revolt against the ‘temperamental and unpredictable’ Ajit Pawar, supporters held placards reading, “We love you, Ajit Dada Pawar,” in his absence after the leader resigned as the Deputy CM. However, nobody other than the first family of the NCP could ever give clarity on events that transpired on Saturday!
