A 25-year-old woman delivered a baby girl on platform number 2 at Nagpur railway station on Tuesday.
The woman, named Augsti Munda along with her husband Kundan and four-year-old son Bijay were travelling to their native place at Chakradharpur in Jharkhand via Pune-Howrah Azad Hind Express. Augsti started experiencing labour pains ahead of Nagpur station. As soon as the train stopped at Nagpur’s station, her emergency delivery took place on the platform.
Kundan said that his co-passengers and TTEs helped him great deal during the emergency situation. By the time the train reached Nagpur station, Dr Sreeja, Assistant Divisional Medical Officer (ADMO) with Central Railway Hospital, along with a medical staff were ready for Augsti’s delivery. As Augsti wasn’t able to move further, the doctor along with four cleaners, helped the woman deliver the baby girl on a seating bench.
Post delivery, the mother and newborn, who were said to be healthy, were immediately shifted to Mayo Hospital in Nagpur.
