Zomato delivery boy knocked dead by speeding car in Nagpur

A 29-year-old food delivery boy, for online portal Zomato, was killed when a speeding car knocked him dead in the early hours of Monday at WHC Road in Nagpur. The young man has been identified as Nilesh Wasnik.

As per reports, Nilesh was riding pillion with his younger brother Siddharth on his two-wheeler (MH-31/EL-1155) when the speeding Maruti Wagon R car (MH 31/CP/9572) hit the bike from behind. While Siddharth suffered minor injuries, Nilesh was killed on the spot.

After the mishap, hundreds of Zomato delivery boys and family members of the Wasnik rushed to Sitabuldi Police Station to demand an immediate arrest of the car driver. Delivery boys also gathered at Futala Lake on Monday afternoon to protest against the unfortunate incident.

When Nation Next spoke to PI Hemant Kharabe from Sitabuldi Polcie Station, he said, “We have identified the car driver and we will soon arrest him.” PI Kharabe also informed that the cops are searching for the accused. Sitabuldi Police has registered a case against the car driver under sections 279, 304 (A) of the IPC and sections 134 and 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act. When Nation Next tried to know about the owner of the car through Transport Department’s VAHAN messaging service, the automated reply showed that the car is registered on the name of a person Yugendra Bisen.

A Zomato Nagpur employee while speaking to Nation Next informed that employees at Zomato on Tuesday collected monetary contributions to help the family of deceased Nilesh Wasnik.
