Popular food ordering company Zomato has decided to deliver food on bicycles in order to reduce air pollution caused due to vehicles. The company, as per its press release, is introducing mechanical and electrical bikes for its last mile delivery. Employees would use e-cycles for short distance deliveries of an average 2.5 kms.
The company has partnered with bicycle-sharing and electric bicycle startups including Zoomcar’s PEDL, Mobycy, e-HIRAN, Yulu, TNT for the same. The company, through the usage of bicycles, not just plans to reduce pollution but also plans to provide better navigation in narrow streets and avoid issues related to traffic jams and parking to its employees.
Zomato CEO Mohit Gupta said, “Our last mile fleet is increasing by 150 delivery partners every day, which places the onus of pollution-free and minimal fossil-fuel solutions on us. We aim to convert 40% of our fleet to power-assisted bikes within the next two years.”
